The Gift of Downsizing

The Gift of Downsizing

As fall lends itself to blustery winds and rainy days, it’s time once again to put away the shorts and flip flops and retrieve the cold weather clothes from their summer storage.

I love this time of year as I can once again wrap myself in those favorite cozy sweaters and jackets.   I will admit that boots are a personal passion of mine so I get a little excited each year when I can pull out my small but adored collection. Funny how such small things can bring so much joy!

Now imagine not having a warm coat or a pair of boots to protect you from the rain and cold.  For thousands in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley this is a very real fact of life.   One in ten British Columbians are currently living in poverty. (*1)  That’s 469,000 people struggling to make ends meet.

This year while you’re unpacking the winter woollies and warm footwear, ask yourself; does this fit? Do I actually wear it? Do I still need it?  If the answer to any of these questions is NO, please consider donating it.  While you’re at it, take a peak in those overflowing drawers or your packed closet.  Clearing out the items that you no longer use or wear will give you the gift of uncluttered space AND gift a deserving person with the necessary clothing to warm them inside and out.

This beautiful city of ours has many generous donation sites.

May your generosity today be returned to you twofold when you need it most!
